Sayings of Prophet Muhammad
may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him

Heaven and Hell

Paradise: The reward of the virtuous

Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: Allah, the Exalted says: I have prepared for my virtuous servants that which no eye has seen, and no ear has heard and no human mind has ever thought of. Recite (this verse of the Qur’an) if you wish:

So, no soul knows what is kept hidden for them of joy, as a reward for their (good) deeds. (32:17) (Bukhari and Muslim)

Paradise: The abode of Peace for the devout

Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: No servant has been truly devout to Allah in this world but Allah plants wisdom in his heart, makes his tongue eloquent, gives him insight into the defects of this world, its diseases and its cure, and takes him out sound towards the Abode of Peace. (Bayhaqi)

Eternal life in Paradise

Hadrat Abu Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) relate that the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, a heavenly herald will proclaim: Here good health is your right and good health has been ordained for you, so now you will never fall ill. Here life has been decreed for you, so now you will never die. Here only youth is your lot, so now you will never grow old. Here only happiness has been bestowed upon you, so now neither pain nor sorrow will afflict you. (Muslim)

Al-Kawthar

Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: While I was travelling in Paradise I came to a river whose banks were domes of hollowed pearls, and when I asked Jibril (peace be upon him) what this was, he replied that it was al-Kawthar which my Lord had given me. It’s soil was the most excellent musk. (Bukhari)

Women of Paradise

Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: A morning or evening expedition in Allah’s path is better than the world and what it contains. If one of the women of Paradise were to look down to the earth, she would illuminate the space in between, fill the space in between with fragrance, and her scarf on her heard is better than the world and what it contains. (Bukhari)

No pollution in Paradise

Hadrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: “The inhabitants of Paradise will eat and drink in it, but they will not spit, or pass water, or void excrement, or suffer from catarrh.” He was asked what would happen to the food. He replied: “It will produce belching and sweat like musk. They will be inspired to glorify and praise Allah as easily as you breathe.” (Muslim)

All the wishes fulfilled in Heaven

Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger said: The lowest place of any of you in Paradise will be that he will be asked to express his wish, and he will wish and wish. He will then be asked if he has expressed his wish and when he replies that he has, he will be told that he will have what he has wished for and an equal amount along with it. (Muslim)

The fire of hell

Harat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: “The fire you have is only one seventieth part of the fire of hell.” When someone suggested that if it were ordinary fire it would be enough, he replied, “It has sixty-nine parts in excess of the fire in this world, each of them being equivalent to their heat.” (Bukhari and Muslim, the wording being Bukhari's).

Oppressors will enter hell

Hadrat Abu Burda (may Allah be pleased with him) said on his father’s authority that the Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: In hell there is a valley called Hab-hab which every oppressor will inhabit. (Tirmidhi)

Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) shown Heaven and Hell

Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) led them in Prayer one day, then mounted the pulpit and, pointing to the qibla in the masjid, said: I have just now been shown, since I led you in Prayer, Paradise and hell pictured in front of this wall, and I have never seen such good and evil as I have see to-day. (Bukhari)

Allah’s Pleasure: The Eternal Bliss

Narrated Hadrat Abu Sa‘id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: Allah, The Mighty and The Majestic, will say to the people of Paradise: “O the people of Paradise”. They will reply: ‘We respond to Your call, O our Lord, and are obedient to Your orders, and all the good is in Your hands!’ He (The Glorified and The Exalted) will then ask: “Are you satisfied?” They will reply: ‘Why shouldn’t we be satisfied, O our Lord as You have given us what You have not given to any of Your created beings?’ He will ask: “Shall I not give you something better than that?” They will respond: ‘O our Lord! What else could be better than that?’ He will say: “I bestow My Pleasure on you and will never be angry with you after that.” (Bukhari)

Muslims yearn for Paradise to see Allah (The Glorified and The Exalted)

Narrated Hadrat Jarir bin ‘AbdAllah (may Allah be pleased with him): We were in the company of the Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) on the fourteenth night (of the lunar month), and he looked at the (full) moon and said: “You will see your Lord as you seen this moon, and you will have no trouble in looking at Him (in Paradise). So, whoever of you can, should not miss the offering of Prayers before sunrise (Fajr Prayer) and before sunset (‘Asr Prayer).” Then the Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) recited:

And hymn the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting. (50:39) (Bukhari)
