Sayings of Prophet Muhammad
may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him

The Jihad of Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him

Prophet Muhammad's battles against non-believers

It has been narrated on the authority of Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) fought nineteen battles and after the Migration (Hijra) performed only one Pilgrimage called Hajjat al-Wada'. (Muslim)

Angels helped Prophet Muhammad in the Battle of Badr

It has been narrated on the authority of Sayyidina 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: When it was the day on which the Battle of Badr was fought, the Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) cast a glance at the polytheists, and they were one thousand while his own Companions were three hundred and nineteen. The Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) turned (his face) towards the Qibla. Then he stretched out his hands and began his supplication to his Lord: "O Allah! Accomplish for me what You have promised me. O Allah! Bring about what You have promised me. O Allah! If this small band of Muslims is destroyed, You will not be worshipped on this earth." He continued his supplication to his Lord, stretching out his hands, facing the Qibla, until his mantle slipped down from his shoulders. So Sayyidian Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him, picked up his mantle and put it on his shoulders. Then he embraced him from behind and said: O Prophet of Allah, this prayer of yours to your Lord will suffice you, and He will fulfil for you what He has promised you. So, Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, revealed (the Qur'anic verse): "When you appealed to your Lord for help, and He answered you (saying): I will help you with a thousand of the angels coming in succession." (8:9) So, Allah helped him with angels. (Muslim)

The injury of Prophet Muhammad in the battle of Uhud

It has been narrated on the authority of 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Abu Hazim, who learnt from his father (Abu Hazim). The latter heard it from Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) who was asked about the injury which the Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) got on the day of the Battle of Uhud. He said: The face of the Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was injured, his front teeth were damaged and his helmet was crushed. Sayyidatina Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon her), was washing the blood (from his head), and Sayyidina 'Ali bin Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was pouring water on it from a shield. When Sayyidatina Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) saw that the bleeding had increased on account of (pouring) water (on the wound), she took a piece of mat and burnt it until it was reduced to ashes. She put the ashes on the wound and the bleeding stopped. (Muslim)

Prophet Muhammad's valour in the battle of Hunayn

Hadrat Salama bin al-Akwa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went to the battle of Hunayn with the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) and (some of) his Companions turned back. Then when the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was surrounded, he dismounted from his she-mule, took a handful of earth from the ground, and turning towards them threw it in their faces saying, "May the faces be made ugly!" Then there was not a man among them whom Allah had created whose eyes were not filled with earth by reason of that handful. They turned in retreat, Allah routed them, and the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) divided the spoils (of battle) among the Muslims. (Muslim)

The valour of Muslim boys in Jihad

Narrated Hadrat 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf (may Allah be pleased with him): While I was fighting in the front line on the day (of the battle) of Badr, suddenly I looked behind and saw on my right and left two young boys, and I did not feel safe by standing between them. Then one of them asked me secretly so that his companion may not hear, "O Uncle! Show me Abu Jahl." I said, "O nephew! What will you do to him?" He said, "I have promised Allah that if I see him, I will either kill him or be killed before I kill him." Then the other said the same to me secretly so that his companion should not hear. I would not have been pleased to be in between two other men instead of them. Then I pointed out to them (Abu Jahl). Both of them attacked him like two hawks till they knocked him down. Those two boys were the sons of 'Afra (an Ansari woman). (Bukhari)

Women helped in Jihad

Narrated Ar-Rubayyi bint Mu'awwidh (may Allah be pleased with her). We were in the company of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) providing the wounded with water and treating them, and bringing to Madina those who had been killed (in the battle field). (Bukhari)

Prophet Muhammad led Salah while in Jihad

Narrated Hadrat 'AbdAllah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) led the prayer of Al-Khawf with one of the two batches of the army while the other (batch) faced the enemy. Then the first batch went away and took the places of their companions (that is, the second batch) and the second batch came and he led his second rak'a with them. Then he finished his Prayer with Taslim and then each of the two batches got up and completed their remaining one rak'a. (Bukhari)
