HADYU MUHAMMAD

THE GUIDANCE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD

Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam

Wa ahsan al-hadyi hadyu Muhammad

And the best guidance is the guidance of Prophet Muhammad,

may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him.

NIYYA: INTENTION

In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful. All Praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may the blessings and peace of Allah, The Glorified and The Exalted, be upon our Beloved Prophet Sayyidina Muhammad al-Mustafa Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam, on his Family, his Companions, and their successors in excellence, till the Day of Judgement, Amin.

We thank Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala for giving us yet another chance to publish a book on Hadith Sharif (Noble Sayings) of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam. The present compilation is titled Hadyu Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam (The Guidance of Prophet Muhammad, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). And what better gift to give to people along with the Qur’an, than the Hadith of the Prophet Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam?

At this juncture, it is appropriate to recall the great sacrifices made by the great masters, the Imams of Hadith who spent their whole lives gathering Hadith and developing the science of Hadith collection. The most well-known are the compilers of the Sihah Sitta, namely Imam al-al-Bukhari, Imam Muslim, Imam Tirmidhi, Imam Abu Dawud, Imam an-Nasai, and Imam Ibn Majah, as well as the foremost, Imam Malik and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala raise their heavenly stature and may we continue to benefit from their barakaat (blessings), Amin.

The inspiration and encouragement towards this effort has come from my Murshid al-Kamil, the Majestic Shaykh, al-Habib Ahmad Mash-hur bin Taha al-Haddad, may we continue to benefit from his prayers, Amin. And I have benefited from the du‘a (supplications) of my parents, grand-parents, and of Mama ‘Aisha Khamisa, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala raise their stature in Paradise, Amin.

Dear reader, as you go through this book, please pray that we get the hidaya (guidance) to act on the teachings of the Prophet Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam. When you come to the chapter on Salah (Prayer), please pray that we offer our Salah five times a day everyday; when you come to the rights of the neighbour, please pray that we are able to fulfil their rights to the full; when you come to the rights and obligations of family members, please pray that we are able to fulfil our obligations, and that our children are able to fulfil theirs; and so on. The primary intention (niyya) of this book is to encourage ‘amal salih (good deeds).

The second major aim is propagation of Islam among non-Muslims and that can only come after the first aim has been fulfilled to some considerable extent. Towards this end, each Muslim family should have at least two copies of this book, one for the family to act upon, and at least one more copy to present to a non-Muslim to propagate Islam. Propagation will be more successful if we acted on these Ahaadith (Sayings) ourselves to begin with.

When we finish reading this book, we will appreciate the comprehensiveness and the all-embracing balanced totality of the teachings of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam as given in his Ahaadith (Sayings). This should lead us to thirst for his original words in Arabic, and get hold of the masterpieces in Arabic, that is Sahih al-al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Jami‘ Tirmidhi, Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan an-Nasai, Sunan Ibn Majah, Musnad Ahmad, and al-Muwatta of Imam Malik.

It is hoped that Hadyu Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam will provide Muslim mothers and fathers the necessary background to teach Islam to their children at home, that primary/elementary school teachers will use the Ahaadith from here relevant for their syllabus, and that it will be adequate for teaching a course on Islamic Religious Education in secondary/high schools. Simultaneously, it should be an eye-opener for non-Muslims about the beautiful teachings of Islam. May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala fill their hearts with the nur (light) of Imaan (faith) and may we all gain maghfira (forgiveness) from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala, Amin.

I would like to thank all those who have assisted in the production of this book. Their reward lies with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala, Amin.

Finally, our request to all readers is to handle this religious book with due respect.

May Allah, The Glorified and The Exalted, accept us as servants in His cause, keep us on the Straight Path of Islam with the Qur’an and Hadith as our guides, and put us in the company of the Truthful, the Martyrs and the Pious, Amin, Yaa Rabb al-‘Alamin.
