His age
Narrated Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was inspired Divinely at the age of forty. Then he stayed in Makka for thirteen years, and then was ordered to migrate, and he migrated to Medina and stayed there for ten years and then passed away. (al-Bukhari)
His pure ancestry
Hadrat Al-'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that he came to the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) who seemed to have heard something and so mounted the pulpit and asked, "Who am I?" On being told that he was Allah's Messenger he said, "I am Muhammad, son of Abdallah, son of 'Abd al-Muttalib. Allah created all creatures and placed me among the best of them, then put them in two sections and placed me in the better section, them made them into tribes and placed me in the best tribe, then made them into families and placed me in the best family, and I am inherently the best of them and come of the best family." (Tirmidhi)
His purification in childhood
Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Hadrat Jibril (peace be upon him) (Gabriel) came to Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) when he was playing with some other boys, seized him, threw him down, split open his heart and took out of it a clot of blood, saying, "This is the devil's portion in you." He then washed it with Zamzam water in a gold dish, repaired it, and put it back in its place. The boys went running to his mother, i.e. his foster-mother, saying, "Muhammad has been killed," so they went to him and found him looking upset. Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said he used to see the mark of the sewing in his breast." (Muslim)
Foretold in the Torah
'Sayyidina 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) owed some dinars to so and so, a Jewish doctor, who demanded payment from the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him). When he said to him, "I have nothing to give you, Jew," He replied, "I will not leave you, Muhammad, till you pay me." Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "I will sit with you, then," and did so. Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) prayed the noon, afternoon, sunset, final evening and morning prayers, and his companions were threating and menacing the man, Allah's Messenger being aware of what they were doing. They then said, "Messenger of Allah, is a Jew keeping you in restraint!" to which he replied, "My Lord has prevented me from wronging one with whom a convenant has been made, or anyone else."
Then when the day was advanced, the Jew said, "I testify that there is no god but Allah, I testify that you are Allah's Messenger and half my property will be devoted to Allah's path. I swear by Allah that my only purpose in treating you as I have done was that I might consider the description of you given in the Torah: 'Muhammad bin 'Abdallah whose birth place is in Makkah, whose place of emigration is in Taiba, and whose kingdom is in Syria; he is not harsh or rough, or loud-voiced in the streets, and he is not characterised by coarseness or lewd speech' I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that you are Allah's Messenger. Give a decision about this property of mine according to what Allah has shown you." Now the Jew was very rich. (Baihaqi)
Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when a young Jew who was a servant of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) became ill, he went to visit him and found his father sitting by his head reciting the Torah. Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said to him, "I adjure you, Jew, by Allah who sent down the Torah to Nabi Musa (peace be upon him), do you find in the Torah any account or description of me, or anything about my coming forth?" On his replying that he did not, the young man said, "Certainly, Messenger of Allah, I swear by Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted) that we do find in the Torah an account and description of you and a statement about your coming forth, and I testify that there is no god but Allah and that you are Allah's Messenger." The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) then said to his companions, "Remove this man from beside his head and look after your brother." (Baihaqi)
His persecution
It has been narrated on the authority of Hadrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: While the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was saying his prayer near the Ka'ba and Abu Jahl with his companions was sitting (near by), Abu Jahl said, referring to the she-camel that had been slaughtered the previous day: Who will rise to fetch the foetus of the she-camel of so and so, and place it between the shoulders of Muhammad when he goes down in prostration (a posture in prayer). The one most accursed among the people got up, brought the foetus and, when the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) went down in prostration, placed it between his shoulders. They they laughed at him and some of them leaned upon the others in laughter. And I stood looking. If I had the power, I would have thrown it away from the back of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him). The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) had bent down his head in prostration and did not raise it, until a man went (to his house) and informed (his daughter) Hadrat Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) who was a young girl (at that time) (about this ugly incident). She came and removed (the filthy thing) from him. Then she turned towards them rebuking them (the mischief mongers).
When the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) had finished his prayer, he invoked Allah's implications upon them in a loud voice. When he prayed, he prayed thrice, and when he asked for Allah's blessings, he asked thrice. Then he said thrice: O Allah, it is for Thee to deal with the Quraish. When they heard his vioce, laughter vanished from them and they feared his malediction. Then he said: O Allah, it is for Thee to deal with Abu Jahl bin Hisham, 'Utba bin Rabi'a, Shabia bin Rabi'a, Walid bin 'Uqba, Umayya bin Khalaf, 'Uqba bin Abu Mu'ait (and he mentioned the name of the seventh person, which I did not remember). By One who sent Sayyidina Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) with the truth, I saw (all) those he had named lying slain on the Day of Badr. Their dead bodies were dragged to be thrown into a pit near the battlefield. (Muslim)
It is related by Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah said: "I was threatened in the path of Allah as no one had been threatened, and I was tortured in the path of Allah as no one had been tortured, and, once, thirty days and nights passed when there was nothing for me and Bilal to eat, which a living being could, except what Bilal had hidden under his arm." (Tirmidhi)
The seal of Prophethood
Narrated Hadrat As-Sa'-ib bin Yazid: My aunt took me to Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) and said, "O Allah's Messenger! My nephew is sick". The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him), passed his hands over my head and blessed me. Then he performed ablution and I drank the remaining water and standing behind him, I saw the seal (of Prophethood) in between his shoulders." (al-Bukhari)
Most handsome
Narrated Hadrat Al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was the handsomest of all the people, and had the best appearance. He was neither very tall nor short. (al-Bukhari)
His face glittered
Narrated Hadrat Abu Is'haq (may Allah be pleased with him): Hadrat Al-Bara' was asked, "Was the face of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) (as bright) as a sword?" He said , "No, but (as bright) as the moon." (al-Bukhari)
Narrated Hadrat 'Abdullah bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard Hadrat Ka'b bin Malik talking after his failure to join (the Ghazwa of) Tabuk. He said, "When I greeted Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) his face was glittering with happiness, for whenever Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was happy, his face used to glitter, as if it was piece of the moon, and we used to recognize it (i.e. his happiness) from his face." (al-Bukhari)
His modesty
Narrated Hadrat Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was shier than a veiled virgin girl. (al-Bukhari)
His talk
Narrated the mother of faithful believers, Hadrat 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) used to talk so clearly that if somebody wanted to count he number of his words, he could do so. (al-Bukhari)
His smile
Hadrat Abdallah bin al-Harith bin Jaz' (may Allah be pleased with him) said he had seen no one more given to smiling than Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him). (Tirmidhi)
His sweat more fragrant than musk
Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) had a very fair complexion and (the drops) of his perspiration shone like pearls and when he walked, he walked inclining forward and I never touched brocade or silk (and found it) as soft as the softness of the palm of Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) and I never smelt musk or ambergris and found its fragrance as sweet as the fragrance or Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) (Muslim)
Hadrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) visited her house and (took rest) and she spread a piece of cloth for him and he had a siesta on it. And he sweated profusely and she collected his sweat and put it in perfume bottles. Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said: Umm Sulaim, what is this? She said: It is your sweat, which I put in my perfume (to make it more fragrant)." Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) sweated in cold weather when revelation descended upon him. (Muslim)
The value of his hair
Narrated Ibn Sirin: I said to Abida, "I have some hair of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) which I got from Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) or from his family." Abida replied, "No doubt if I had a single hair of that it would have been dearer to me than the whole world and whatever is in it." (al-Bukhari)
His passing away
Narrated mother of faithful believers, Hadrat 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): I heard the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him), who was resting against me, saying, "O Allah! Excuse me and bestow Your Mercy on me and let me join the highest companion (in Paradise)." See Qur'an (4:69) (al-Bukhari)
