THE AZKAAR AND AWRAAD OF
MAWLANA AL-HADDAD
Rady Allahu Anhu
AWRAAD
To specify the number of times each Tasbeeh or invocation is to be recited
at specific times is called Wird in Arabic. The plural of Wird is
Awraad. The recitation of Azkaar and Awraad is thus a Sunnah
of the blessed Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam and much spiritual reward
and benefit is to be derived from its recitation. In fulfilment of this Sunnah,
the Ulama (the learned) and the Awliya (the sufi saints), have also
specified the number of times each Tasbeeh or invocation is to be recited
for the benefit of Muslims. They have composed Dua and Salawaat
(Durood) on Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam that fill volumes.
And some of the Ulama have compiled the Zikr from the Qur'an Kareem,
Hadith Shareef and the writings of the Awliya in spiritual masterpieces
for the sake of convenience and ease of access to Muslims.
A CLASSIC OF MUSLIM SPIRITUALITY
One such classic of Muslim spirituality is titled Waseelatul 'Ibaad Ilaa Zaadil
Ma'aad (A Means For People To Provide For The Hereafter). It is a Majmu'
(collection) of the Azkaar and Awraad of Sayyidina al-Imam al-Habib
Abdallah bin 'Alawi al-Haddad, Rady Allahu Anhu (1044-1132 A.H), compiled by as-Sayyid
'Alawi bin Muhammad bin Tahir al-Haddad. It contains the daily Azkaar and
Awraad of Mawlana al-Haddad, may we continue to benefit from his baraka
(blessings), Aameen. It is a collection of ten major forms of Zikr.
